just some thoughts
So today I took a little walk by myself down my street. First, this man that was watering his flowers outside said “Good afternoon!” to me. Then as I was crossing the street, this man in a car stopped and let me pass and I gave him a smile of thanks, and he waved. I mean, it seems a little weird to think this, but I think our society has started to forget about these small, kind gestures. Nowadays when someone says “Good afternoon” or gives you a friendly wave, too many of us automatically assume that they are a rapist or kidnapper, so we ignore it. This bothers me. Society too quickly assumes that everyone is out to get them. Isn’t it better to think that everyone is good, and there is a minority of people who are bad, instead of thinking the opposite? Maybe I’m just a little too optimistic, or I guess you could say I’m naïve in a way, but I honestly think that we have become too focused on the negative aspects in people. And this doesn’t just apply to strangers, it can be for our closest friends, our siblings, cousins, anyone. When we focus too much on the bad qualities a person has, it can overpower everything else we feel about them, especially all the love we have for them. I’m not saying let’s just ignore all bad traits a person has, but rather let us try not to let a few negative qualities take over all the good ones.
I don’t know if I even make sense sometimes. This blog was totally random and I probably digressed from the topic but oh well (:
